New York

NYC.

Ever since my brother moved to New York City we have had this trip to visit him on our list of things to do. It was both of the girls' first time in NYC and Olivia was definitely a bit overwhelmed by the craziness of Manhattan. We absolutely love Airbnb and wouldn't know what to do without it. We stayed at a really cozy and safe 2 bedroom condo in Brooklyn that was walking distance from the Brooklyn Bridge Park and the surrounding areas were pretty family friendly and convenient. We wished the weather was a bit warmer during our stay but we were lucky to get a few times of sunny warm weather. We spent our entire first day in Brooklyn and most of our time exploring the Brooklyn Bridge Park's activities. We got ice cream and pizza all the while getting to watch the sunset over Manhattan before returning home for a much needed bath for the girls and bedtime. The next day we met up with my brother and had breakfast at the Rockefeller Center and he took the girls to a few toy stores before finally getting to see his apartment in midtown Manhattan. We then headed to Central Park Zoo and ended the night with some dinner and shopping in KTown. It was really great for the girls to have some quality play time with their uncle and that was pretty much the highlight of the trip. Things don't always go as planed and it's never easy when you travel with young children like ours but we hope that we will continue to have opportunities like this to travel as a family and continue to push ourselves to make more memories like these =).

Andaz 5th Ave | New York, NY

I’m so blessed to have some of the best clients in the business. I love traveling for shoots and it helps me get to know that client better since we get to spend a few days together rather then just the few hours we get together during the shoot. I’m here preping for Amy + Scott’s session tomorrow but they really went beyond my expectations to make sure I was taken care of during my stay in NYC.

The Andaz 5th Ave is my home for the next 2 nights and to this date haven’t stayed at a hotel as modern and sophisticated with the service and hospitality to match. I felt comfortable and taken care of from the very second I set foot in the hotel. Their seamless and casual check-in was refreshing and I was surprise to come back from scouting Brooklyn and other areas of NYC and see an elegantly plated snack tray and a bottle of wine for the evening. I don’t drink but the gesture was very much appreciated. Don’t worry I had plenty to drink since everything that was in the fridge that was not an alcoholic beverage was complimentary, seriously how awesome is that.

Thank you Amy + Scott for all the thought and preparation you put in on my behalf! I can’t wait for our session tomorrow!

Sarah Expecting. | New York, NY

Sarah and I knew we were going to be busy with the coming of the new year and with everything going on it wasn’t going to allow for us to take an official baby moon or have dedicated time to take pictures of her pregnancy. So we took the two times we knew we would be traveling and made some time during each trip to take some photos. Shooting pictures of your wife such a delight and breeze. Photography has always been an extension of our relationship and I can’t tell you the number of times we just stopped and laughed at each other during the shoot. Sarah just has a way of making light of things that i’m probably taking a little too seriously which i absolutely adore.

We stayed at The Standard Hotel in the heart of the meatpacking district and it has been one of the nicest times we have had in NYC. The location is great, walking distance to a ton of retail stores and the Chelsea Market which is a great place to just enjoy a warm drink, conversation and fresh foods. The rooms are surprisingly open for a New York hotel and everything is modern and beautiful. The floor ceiling windows in every room offer great views of either the city or of the Hudson River. I do want to mention that every room has a peek-a-bo shower and that was fine for Sarah and i but i could imagine that getting a bit uncomfortable to shower if you roomed with a friend or even worse a family member. From the model-like reception people who help you check-in to the beautiful interior of the hotel it was just straight up beautiful inside and out. The elevators are home to a strange and a bit creepy video that plays while you ride up and down the dark elevator which add a weird ambiance to your ride to and from your room. As creepy as the video was i found myself to be rather mesmerized by the video every time i rode the elevator. The service was stellar and friendly. We were offered help many times without having to ask for it. As if the staff was anticipating any needs my pregnant wife and i might need which i loved. The top level of the hotel does become home to a one of the more popular night clubs at night so some of the higher floors do become more noisy but since we were on the 9th floor we didn’t really notice and slept easily.

We had a great time in DR for Susan’s wedding and very much enjoyed some alone time at The Standard Hotel but we ready to meet Chloe and are SO excited for this next phase of lives together!
